Royal Festivities & A Princely Gift through the Formation of International Charity Foundation and the Sponsorship of Five Hundred Talented Bahraini Students

The Royal Executive Office of H.H. Sh. Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa [of the Kingdom of Bahrain] confirmed earlier today having received final approval from His Highness for the formation of an international philanthropic foundation on the occasion of the birth of his sons H.H. Sh. Hamad bin Nasser Al Khalifa and H.H. Sh. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Khalifa.

The initiative is a result of endless meetings between His Highness Sh. Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and key international academic and social advisors over the last two years. Although His Highness' charitable and philanthropic works continued unhindered, the actual formation of the foundation was initially interrupted considering the events which took place in the Middle Eastern region over the last eighteen months. Nonetheless, His Highness believes that it is even more important now than ever before to extend a supporting hand to all constituencies in these trying times.

His Highness Sh. Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa said, "Regardless where one stands, no one will question the fact that our world is going through turbulent times, whether it be economic crisis, natural disasters, or political & social instabilities. More than ever before, those able are obligated to extend a helping hand to their neighbors, friends, the needy, and the underprivileged without any reservation."

The foundation shall be incorporated under the name of Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Charitable Foundation and shall be bestowed with a multi-jurisdictional mandate to support the promotion of academic achievement, innovation and cross cultural dialogue. It is understood that the initiative builds on years of active participation by His Highness in the initiation, patronage and funding of youth programs in the Kingdom. The objective is to build on the working group's experience to date, with the cooperation of international organization, to act as a catalyst in nurturing young people's potential and promoting their talents and abilities.

It is understood that the first program being established and executed by the Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Charitable Foundation entails a generous endowment to cover the financial support of five hundred (500) talented, but needy,Bahraini students. The students shall be provided with all forms of support during their academic careers and throughout the transition into the workforce. Meetings have been arranged in the upcoming weeks with the relevant authorities, namely the Ministry of Education, Bahrain University, and the Ministry of Labor, to assist in identifying such talent pools and guiding their selection of academic and career paths in line with their abilities and the labor market requirements.

A high level royal delegation is currently in the United Kingdom and headed by His Highness personally to meet with recognized international philanthropic organizations and academic institutions to learn from their experience and assess potential joint efforts.

In addition, the Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Charitable Foundation has issued an invitation to select leading and internationally recognized academic institutions to provide their inputs as to the manner in which the endowment may most efficiently benefit humanity, including but not limited to the funding of professorial chairs to provide focused research on the relevant social issues and the funding of international forums for the promotion of inter-cultural dialogue and understanding.

The unwavering support and commitment of the Royal patron to such a worthwhile humane cause over the years to come shall allow the Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Charitable Foundation to take its rightful place amongst international institutions in serving fellow citizens around the globe."
