    SCYS Chairman praises Khalid bin Hamad Swimming Challenge

    Manama, March 13 (BNA)-- Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) and President of Bahrain Athletics Association Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa is set to bring about a new achievement for Bahrain and Arab sport by swimming 35 km from Saudi Arabia's Sunset Beach Resort to Bahrain's Sofitel Resort, in Zallaq.

    SCYS Chairman and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa lauded the Khalid bin Hamad Swimming Challenge which will be held tomorrow with the participation of swimmers from host country Bahrain, in addition to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Spain, the United States of America, Slovenia, New Zealand and Australia.

    Speaking to media persons and journalists in an introductory programme of the contest, which was held today at Sofitel Resort, in Zallaq, he paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for his tremendous support to Bahraini youth and sport.

    He added the competition, which will benefit cancer patients in Bahrain, is a translation of the strong ties binding Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. He commended Shaikh Khalid's humanitarian initiative and keenness to compete in the event, pointing out that he will be present aboard the boat that will accompany him during the 35-km contest.

    He also thanked the other contenders for their participation, wishing Shaikh Khalid and all the participants every success.

    On his part, Shaikh Khalid underscored his constant keenness to serve the Bahraini society through such initiatives, praising Shaikh Nasser's support to him during all the preparation period which lasted for more than eight months.

    He also unveiled the competition's technical and organisational procedures, pointing out keenness to take full advantage of the available experiences.
