    Shaikh Nasser hails triathletes' performance

    Manama, Apr. 19. (BNA) -- Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended the events of the Nasser bin Hamad Foundation (NBHF) Junior and Pan Triathlon race yesterday, and hailed the performance of triathletes.

    Around 400 participants of both age groups took part in the race, which was organised in cooperation with Bahrain Athletic Association Bahrain Roadrunners Committee, aiming to spread sports culture among the different segments of the society.

    Among the contenders was the First Deputy Chairman of SCYS and President of Bahrain Athletic Association Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, clinched eighth place among more than 300 racers in his category.

    Winners were awarded by SCYS Chairman and First Deputy Chairman, who appreciated the promising technical levels shown by participants, indicating the rapid stretch of triathlon popularity among the Bahraini community.

    Shaikh Nasser stated that NBHF is keen on organising various sport activities as part of its constant peruse of spreading awareness on the benefits and noble causes of sports.

    He also affirmed that the race is considered as one of the major sport events organised by the foundation that contributes in enriching the growing sports movement in the kingdom, as well as attracting large numbers of participants, noting to the 95 contenders in the juniors category that indicates the positive interaction with triathlon sports from different age groups in Bahrain.

    Shaikh Khalid appreciated the wide participation of local, regional and international triathletes in the race, assuring that they contributed in the success of the event. He also expressed that the increasing numbers of contenders in triathlon races in Bahrain, promise a bright future for the sport in the kingdom.
